Pigeon Island, floating a few kilometers away from the coast is a very small island, covered completely with pure-white coral, which offers breathtaking underwater scenes of more coral, tropical fish and other forms of marine life.
West Coast
The West Coast is slightly rougher and more dynamic than the East. Most towns are developed and have most necessities required for tourism in which it thrives. The beaches are palm-rimmed, golden stretches and they are well known for Spectacular Sunsets. The sea on the West Coast is best for Snorkeling and Scuba Diving from the months of November to April.

The descent is controlled entirely by you. So a judicious use of your legs and the ropes is necessary to complete abseiling the waterfall. Starting from the top of the waterfall giving you a panoramic view of the mountains and rain forests where you will also have to hike to get to the top of the waterfall. You will be enjoying climbing down the waterfall. The misty spray in your eyes, the stress of knowing that danger lurks in every misstep you may make and the deep mysterious jungle all combine to make this experience memorable for life. The triumph you feel after the adrenaline rush when you get the top sends you a blast of endorphins that will leave you happy and self-confident for weeks.
Deep Sea Fishing
Deep Sea fishing is a great adventure sport if you are keen on spending a few hours at sea. Since Sri Lanka is surrounded by the deep blue waters of the Indian Ocean, it offers travellers’ ample room for various water sports activities including deep sea fishing.
This activity is a form of angling that requires deep waters and is usually taken place further away from land. If you are going on a deep sea fishing expedition, the water depth should be at least 30 meters. Deep sea fishing is also called Big Game Fishing, Boat Fishing and even Sport Fishing.
Deep sea fishing is also quite different from normal fishing expeditions. Taking your boat further away from land means that you will be in deep waters filled with big game fish such as tuna, sharks, swordfish and even marlin. You will certainly not come across these species closer to the coastline since they feed and reproduce in these deep ocean waters.
This adventure activity is relatively out of the limelight when compared with water sports such as surfing. However, there are a number of opportunities that are available for enthusiasts to explore these deep waters. The best season for sport fishing along the Western and South Eastern Coast is usually from August to May when the deep seas are much calmer.
